George “Buster” McFarland, 81, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025 at MercyOne Genesis, Davenport. Cremation will be accorded and a private family service held at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal . Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, assisted the family.
George Elvin McFarland was born May 21, 1943 in Kirksville, MO, to Charles Cecil and Wilma Agatha (Skinner) McFarland. He was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandy” Storjohann on October 12, 1968 in Bettendorf.
He served in the US Army, and he is a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Prior to his retirement, he had worked for many years as a sanitation foreman for General Foods and then as a yard inspector for Alter Scrap Yard
“Buster” enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, camping, campfires, watching westerns, listening to country and western music, playing cards, and spending time with his family. He made a great holiday stuffing that was loved by everyone who tasted it.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Sandy; children Teresa (Gerald) Peterson, Darsha (fiancé Randy Burroughs) Rueve, Jason (fiancée Sierra Mooney) McFarland Sr. all of Davenport; grandchildren Phillip Rueve, Zachary Rueve, Jason (Shayla Cooper) McFarland Jr, Summer Star Goodman, Shawn Glenn Goodman; brothers Arthur “Butch” McFarland of Chariton, IA, Jerry McFarland of LaPlata, MO; special friend and “sister” Chris Abbott of Davenport; and beloved dog “Puppy”.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother Wilma Wingfield, sisters Daisy Weaver and Frances Moots, and brothers Alva “Gene”, David, Roy, and Charles “Chuck” McFarland.
