Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Gene R. Boyd, 83, of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2026, at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport with military honors. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until Mass begins Monday at church in the gathering space. Memorials may be made to St Paul the Apostle - Investing in our Faith: School Building Fund. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Gene died Friday, August 14, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.
Gene Robert Boyd was born on January 3, 1943, in Davenport, a son of Rodney E. and Berneice E. (Mason) Boyd. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1961 and proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1964 until 1970. Gene was united in marriage to Mary E. Gallagher on January 2, 1965, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. They have shared over 61 years of marriage together.
Gene owned and operated Boyd’s Rare Coins for over 50 years, retiring in 2009.
Gene was deeply devoted to his Catholic faith and an active parishioner at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church as well as a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of American Numismatic and the NRA.
Gene enjoyed photography, fishing, hunting, shooting sports, and gardening. He was also an outstanding cook, and enjoyed feeding others including family, friends, and large charitable events.
Those left to honor his memory are his loving wife, Mary, Davenport; children: Stephen (Tamara) Boyd, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Christine Vaske (Rick Crouse), Davenport; grandson, Robert (Calli) Vaske, Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda Boyd, Dottie Gallagher, Julie and Paul Kraman, Dennis and Lorraine Gallagher, and a cousin, Pat Claussen.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Gary Boyd, Grant Boyd, and Gayle Pahl. May they rest in God’s eternal peace.
