Gay Elizabeth Castel

Funeral services celebrating the life of Gay Castel, 87, of Eldridge, formerly of Davenport, will be held at 11am on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Visitation will be from 10am until time of services.  Memorials may be made to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue.

Mrs. Castel passed away Monday, July 24, 2023, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Gay Elizabeth Barrows was born December 24, 1935, in Des Moines, the daughter of Virgil and Lillian (Hoffman) Barrows.  She was united in marriage to Raymond Castel on May 3, 1952, in Davenport and he preceded her in death on June 28, 2017.

Gay had been a custodian for the Davenport School District for twenty-seven years when she retired in 1995.

Her happiest moments in life were the times she spent at family gatherings with her children and grandchildren.  She also enjoyed ceramics, cooking, and traveling.

Those left to honor her memory include her children and their spouses Richard (Ruth Ann) Castel of Davenport, Anthony (Debbie L.) Castel of Geneseo, Illinois, Teri (Rod) Caldwell of Davenport, Jeffrey Castel of Redondo Beach, California, Janelle (Robert) Fuller of Nevada; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Ray, she was preceded in death by her son Gary, grandson Ricky, and brothers Robert and William.
