Gary Cress

Gary Cress, 78, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026 at MercyOne Medical Center, Davenport.

The family will greet friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family. Private family burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Gary was born on July 6, 1947 in Davenport, Iowa, a son of Ray and Ethel (Bowden) Cress. He was united in marriage to Barbara Batten May 12, 1972.

Gary was employed with Oscar Mayer for 33 years. He was known for telling his stories and reminiscing about the past. He was very friendly and was always willing to help others. He spent a lot of time at Oak Hill Gun Club, shooting and shooting the shit with friends and anyone within ear shot. Gary enjoyed spending time woodworking and camping. He also found joy in Western and Native American History. Above all he loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Barbara, sons David (Heather) Cress, Michael (Jackie) Cress and Aaron (Christina) Cress; grandchildren Ashley, Emily, Memphis, Callahan, Jase, Raymond and Annabelle; siblings Sharen Abbott and Daniel Cress; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ron Cress and granddaughter Allison Cress.
