Gary Adams, 79, of Davenport, died Friday, October 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family after a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer.
A gathering to celebrate Gary’s life will be held from 3 until 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport with a service at the conclusion at 5 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date.
Douglas Gary Adams was born on February 13, 1947, in Davenport, a son of Allyn John and Dorris Louise (Tagge) Adams. Gary graduated from Davenport West High School in 1965. He was united in marriage to Martha Rodriguez on August 30, 1975, at Newcomb Presbyterian Church, Davenport. They have shared over 51 years of marriage and memories together.
Gary worked for Nestle Purina as a millwright for over 44 years retiring in 2011.
Gary was incredibly handy and always had a project underway. From plumbing to electrical work and just about anything in between, he could do it all. He enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears, playing euchre, and relaxing with a cold Busch Light. He also enjoyed golfing in a league with his co-workers. Gary loved his motorcycles and owned several Harley-Davidsons through the years, finding joy in the freedom of the open road.
Those left to honor Gary’s memory are his loving wife, Martha, Davenport; children: Mike (Jolene) Adams, Delmar, Brian Adams, Rock Island, Nick (Tammy) Adams, Festus, Missouri, and Jennifer (Corey) Spies, Davenport; grandchildren: Madilyn, Lillianna, Emerson Adams, and Charli Spies; a brother, David (Joline) Adams, Blue Grass.
Gary was preceded in death by a son, Chris Adams, his parents, and a brother and sister-in-law, Steven (Polly) Adams.
