Galen R. Price, Jr.

Galen Royer Price Jr., beloved father, grandfather, partner, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Davenport, Iowa, he was the eldest son of Drs. Galen Royer and Lorene (Logic) Price. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Sharon Lee (Huebner) Price, and his brother-in-law, Art Cook.

Galen grew up in Davenport, where he excelled in academics and athletics. A graduate of St. Ambrose Academy (Class of 1958), he lettered in three sports, was named football MVP his senior year, and received the Bechtel Award for athletic and scholastic excellence. He attended Marquette University on a football scholarship, later earning a degree in Business and Finance in 1962. It was there that he met Sharon, who would become his wife.

That same year, Galen entered the U.S. Navy, completing Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, and Supply Corps School in Athens, GA. He first served as Supply Officer aboard the USS Miller (DD-535) and later aboard the USS America (CVA-66). He then became Admiral’s Aide at the Naval Supply Center in Norfolk, VA.

After leaving the Navy, Galen began a career with International Harvester in Chicago and earned his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1971. When International Harvester’s agricultural division was acquired by Tenneco, Galen transitioned to Case-IH in Racine, WI, where he worked until retiring in 1997.

An avid sailor, Galen spent countless days on Lake Michigan and later in Florida waters. He was deeply involved in the U.S. Power Squadron for over 25 years, teaching boating safety, completing all nautical education courses, and serving as Senior Navigator and past Commander. He also earned his U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s license and became a certified American Sailing Association Instructor. In addition, he was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.

In 2001, he and Sharon retired to Punta Gorda, FL, where Galen made a memorable six-week voyage down America’s inland waterways to bring his sailboat, Pisces, to their new home. He embraced retirement with sailing, golf, tennis, travel, and community involvement.

After Sharon’s passing, Galen found joy and companionship with his partner, Sandy Darna. Together they shared friendships, adventures, and time on their power boat, Sol Mates.

Galen is survived by Sandy and his five children: Kimberly Zwerver (Jan) of Flower Mound, TX; Deborah Price (Brian) of Apollo Beach, FL; Galen Price (Nancy) of Bella Vista, AR; Scott Price (Tracy) of Flower Mound, TX; and Chris Price (Aubrey) of Canon City, CO. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and his siblings Pat Cook, David Price (Loreen), Charles Price (Christine), George Price (Lily), and Mary Pfeifer (William).

A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, October 2 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Punta Gorda, FL, followed by Military Honors and Committal at Sarasota National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.

Galen will be remembered for his faith, service, love of family, and the friendships he cherished. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul and mailed to Sacred Heart Conference 25200 Airport Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Specify the person to be remembered or honored, as well as the address where an acknowledgment should be sent.
