Frank "Frankie" Shimkus, 31, of Davenport, has made the transition to the next level of his journey. He left us on October 7, 2026.
We will gather at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home (614 Main St., Davenport) on Monday, October 19, 2026. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, with services immediately following.
Following the visitation and service, family and friends are invited to join us in a celebration of life at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to leave a donation with the funeral home to help the family with final arrangements and to support the two young men who called him "Dad." Thank you in advance for your kindness.
Frank was born on May 22, 1995, in San Diego, California, the son of Mark and Janice Shimkus. He grew up in California until the age of 10, when a family move brought him to the Quad Cities. He completed his education here, receiving his high school diploma. During those years, Frank was very active in school sports, joining the wrestling team and achieving a trip to the state tournament, where he placed exceptionally well and dominated his weight class. When the opportunity came to join the football team, he simply couldn't resist.
A few years later, Frank moved back to California with his sister, where he became an Animal Control Officer and moved through the ranks to achieve the position of Sergeant. Eventually, the draw of family brought him back home to Davenport.
Frank was a highly talented carpenter with skills at all levels, finding immediate work with different local contractors as well as working in the family businesses owned by his father and brother. Frank loved the outdoors and animals in general, but he held a special love for "The River." You could always find him there—if he wasn't playing with his children or fishing, he was cleaning up the banks and the parks along the water. Frank frequently organized community participation in springtime river cleanups, often saying, "If you're at the river and you don't pick something up and throw it away, you are just as bad as the person who threw it there!"
Frank enjoyed riding motorcycles and jet skis, driving his boat, and working on cars. If it was fast, it was Frankie. What will be missed the most, however, are the fun times he created with all his nieces and nephews—throwing the football, playing basketball, wrestling—and the shenanigans he shared with his brothers and sisters. Frank would help anyone in need if given the opportunity. His famous saying was, "Closed mouths don't get fed; open your mouth and ask for help!" Over the years, he helped his parents a great deal on the farm and participated in helping with the animals for the fair. Frank touched many lives and always gave of himself to help others in need.
Those left behind to honor his memory include his children, Carter and Hudson; his parents, Mark and Janice Shimkus; his siblings, Christine Arbizo, Michael (Stacie) Shimkus, Sherry Shimkus, and Bradley (Amber) Shimkus; and 16 beloved nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his grandparents and his infant brother, Mark.
