F. James "Jim" Krumbholz

F. James “Jim” Krumbholz, 97, of Davenport, Iowa, was born on March 16, 1929, in Davenport, the first son of Georgia and Floyd Krumbholz.

Jim graduated from Davenport High School before joining the Iowa National Guard, where he later rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel. He attended Carthage College in Illinois, playing football on scholarship.

In 1950, Jim married Geraldine “Geri” Holst at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Davenport. Together, Jim and Geri shared 72 years of marriage and raised three daughters: Susan, Jeryl, and Martha.

Jim dedicated 34 years of hard work and service to Alcoa’s Davenport Works before retiring. Jim and Geri taught polka dancing at Scott Community College. He was a past member of the Davenport Elks Club, volunteered for many years at the Bettendorf Public Library, and served as a board member of the Scott County Humane Society.

An avid hunter and angler, Jim loved spending time outdoors. Some of his fondest memories were made on fishing trips with his grandsons. Those trips almost always ended the same way—with a stop at Whitey's Ice Cream for a red raspberry malt. Jim was a devoted Iowa Hawkeyes fan who proudly cheered for both the football and basketball teams. He loved his dogs and could often be found watching birds gather around the many feeders in his backyard. He was also an avid woodcarver who took great pleasure in working with his hands.

Jim will be remembered by his daughter Susan (Garry) Gruenhagen, of Davenport; daughter Jeryl Krumbholz, of Bettendorf; 3 grandchildren Eric (Maureen) Gruenhagen, of Eldridge; Andy (Tammie) Gruenhagen, of Davenport; and Katie Gruenhagen of Eldridge; and five great-grandchildren. and son-in-law Dave Fiebich

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; his daughter, Martha ; his parents, one brother; and two sisters.

Cremation rites have been accorded, with Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home assisting the family. Private burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
