Evelyn J. Stroops, 90, of Davenport, died September 10, 2025 at MercyOne-Genesis, Davenport.
Funeral services to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2025 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Christ Church, Davenport.
Evelyn June Taylor was born on April 13, 1935 in Mercer County, Illinois, a daughter of Oscar and Belva (Hall) Taylor. She graduated from Little York High School. Evelyn was united in marriage to Earl J. Stroops on July 1, 1955 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Davenport. Earl preceded her in death on November 6, 2017 following 62 years of marriage.
Evelyn worked in the telecommunications industry during her career, starting in Burlington, Iowa then following her move to the Quad Cities working, she worked for Northwestern Bell which later became US West. She retired in the early 90’s.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening and canning those delicious crops, and playing cards. Evelyn also enjoyed shopping and getting her hair and nails done with her daughter, Julie. She was a woman of great faith and was one of the first members of Christ United Methodist Church.
Those left to honor her memory are her children: Julie Hungate and Bradley (Wendy) Stroops, all of Davenport; grandchildren, Megan (Chris) Wiebler, Nick Hungate, Nathan (Jen) Hungate, Beth (Jai) Dayal, Katherine Gorania; great-grandchildren: Reighlynn, Thomas, Jace, Blake, Connor, Logan, Anik, Emma, Damien, Vivian; a sister, Joyce Jeffries, Beebe, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Sam Hungate; her parents, and siblings: Betty Gustafson, Earl Taylor, Phyllis Dunsworth, Roy Taylor, Dan Taylor, and Louise Woods.
