Elizabeth L. Newcomb

January 21, 1925 — March 9, 2023

Davenport

Our Mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Newcomb passed away on March 9, 2023 at Ridgecrest Village.

Mom was born on January 21, 1925 in Davenport, IA to Walter and Marie Dismer. In January 1944, she graduated from Davenport High School, and on February 5, she married our Dad, John Newcomb, the “love of her life”, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, when he was home on leave from the Army Air Corp. He returned to his post after they were married, and was shipped overseas to the European Theater during WWII, and Mom went to work at the Rock Island Arsenal. After the war, Dad returned home, and they started their life together. They bought a house in the west end of Davenport, and raised 5 children together – Barbara, Connie, Vicki, Johnny and Debbie. After 46 years together, Dad passed away.

Mom was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. She loved having her family and friends around her – that was her greatest joy.

She also loved playing cards, going out to eat, and attending Mass at St. Alphonsus.

We will miss her every day! Love you, Mom!

Elizabeth is survived by daughters Connie (Ernie) Seitz, Vicki (Jerry) Meyer and Debbie Pavano; sons-in-law John Masengarb and Gerardo Pavano; 7 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; daughter, Barbara; son, Johnny; sister, Jean; and brothers, Walt and Wayne.

Private family services will be held at Halligan–McCabe–DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with burial at Davenport Memorial Park.
