Ed Conroy

Ed Conroy, 89, of Davenport, died Monday, July 20, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Ed will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026 at St. Joan of Arc Parish – Vianney Campus- 4097 -18th Street, Bettendorf, Iowa 52722. The Mass will be livestreamed by clicking the following link: St. John Vianney YouTube Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, Illinois on Saturday. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 N. Main Street, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Hand-in-Hand – People with Purpose or to St. Joan of Arc Foundation.

Edmund Francis Conroy was born on October 19, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, a PROUD Southsider, and the youngest of the nine children born to Francis Millet (Hunt) and James Patrick Conroy, Sr. Ed was the beneficiary of an incredible Catholic education, graduating from St. Rita High School in 1954 and then earning a degree from St. Ambrose College in 1958. He was proud to have served in the Illinois Army National Guard, continuing a family tradition of military service shared by his brothers.

Ed was united in marriage to Carol A. Duffy on November 3, 1962, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chicagoland. They have shared over sixty-three years of marriage and memories together.

After earning his degree from St. Ambrose, Ed went on to teach at Fenger High School on the Southside of Chicago until he and Carol started to grow their large Irish Catholic family. Ed went to work in sales for Internation Harvester in Chicago before moving to Iowa in 1977, acquiring Riverside International, a subsidiary of IH. He went on to acquire Hawkeye International Truck Sales, Freightliner of Chicago, Waterloo Truck Sales, and Freightliner of Rockford. Ed worked tirelessly growing his business around the Midwest for over twenty-five years, retiring in 2002.

Ed’s life was rooted in the things he loved most: his faith, his family, his country, and sports. He enjoyed playing golf, but his greatest joy came from cheering on others—especially his children and grandchildren. Whether it meant making a spontaneous trip to Chicago or South Bend to watch a game, he was always eager to be there to support his favorite teams. Ed took immense pride in each of his grandchildren and celebrated every one of their accomplishments with genuine joy. His lifelong passion for sports was reflected in his cherished collection of sports memorabilia, but the moments he treasured most were the family’s annual trips to Northern Wisconsin, where time together created memories that would last a lifetime.

Ed was deeply committed to his community, serving on numerous boards and generously supporting many causes. A steadfast advocate for Catholic education, he was a generous supporter and was a especially devoted to the success of the young men and women that attended Assumption High School and more recently St. Joan of Arc Catholic School.

Those left to honor Ed’s memory are his loving wife, Carol, Davenport; children and their spouses: Colleen (Bill) Freeman, Ft. Myers, Florida, Tim (Kitty) Conroy, Elmhurst, Illinois, Ed (Ginny) Conroy, Charleston, South Carolina, Erin (Matt) Devlin, Toronto, Canada, Bridget (Mark) Robbins, Davenport, Dan Conroy, Davenport, and Duffy (Nikki) Conroy, Tulsa, Oklahoma; his twenty beloved grandchildren, and one-great-grandson as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings: Col. Don Conroy, Rev. James Conory, Francis Conroy, Mary Huth, Wilbur Conroy, John (infant), Sr. Marge Conroy, and Jack Conroy. May they rest in eternal peace.
