Duncan Kendall

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Duncan P. Kendall, 92, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 N. Main Street, downtown Davenport. Burial will take place in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mr. Kendall passed away peacefully Thursday, February 22, 2018 at ManorCare Utica Ridge, Davenport surrounded by his family.

Duncan Putnam Kendall was born on August 19, 1925 in Davenport, a son of Othel and Mary D. (Putnam) Kendall. He attended Davenport High School and graduated from high school in Washington, D.C. He served our country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Duncan was united in marriage to Mary Barbara Serena on September 4, 1948 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2012 after almost 64 years of marriage.

Duncan worked in the engineering department at ALCOA for over 36 years retiring in 1988.

Duncan was a sweet and gentle man. His family was everything to him and he was most comfortable when they surrounded him, especially all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately call him Poppy.

He was a 63 year member of the Masons, joining in 1955.

Survivors include his children and their spouses: Mary (Mark) Myers, Larry (Joni) Kendall, and Barb (Steve) Brown all of Bettendorf; grandchildren: Elizabeth Serena of Iowa City, Laura (Alex) Peña of Davenport, Kristi (Doug) Hendrickson of Bettendorf, Jacob (Melissa) Kendall of Davenport, Jessica (Brandon Streitmatter) Kendall of Davenport, Ryan Myers of Colorado, Scott (Keesa) Brown of Washington, IL, Lori Monagle of Washington, IL and Cary LaMaack of Charlotte, IA; great- grandchildren Zoie and Isaiah Peña; Jackson and Hannah Streitmatter; Alexandria, Walker, Fisher and Gunner LaMaack; Tyler, Zach, Wesley and Kampbell Brown; Quade, Quentin and Daizy Monagle, Jameson Kendall and Ash Hendrickson; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Edward Serena and Ernie (Barb) Serena of Boston, Kathy (Paul) Schultz of Latrobe, PA.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Duncan’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at ManorCare-Utica Ridge and Senior Star for all the loving and compassionate care they shared.
