Douglas D. Wingerter

Douglas “Doug” Dwayne Wingerter, 91, passed away March 18, 2023, in Bettendorf, IA.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. March 23, 2023 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Private burial to follow at Davenport Memorial Park.

Doug was born February 19, 1932, the son of Harold and Viola Wingerter. Doug grew up in Muscatine, Iowa with his four brothers and one sister.  Doug married Frances VanHoosier in 1954 and had three children; Rita, Barbara and Richard. He and Frances later divorced and she preceded him in death.

Doug proudly worked for over 27 years at John Deere.  Post retirement, Doug enjoyed his time with his best friend and significant other, Beverly McCarty. Doug had a great sense of humor and loved pulling pranks! He had some of the funniest stories to tell! Doug loved his social life; it was rare to find him home!  He enjoyed going to the races, dances, out to eat, visiting friends and family, attending the events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and so much more! Doug adored all of his grandchildren.  He was kind hearted and loved animals.  Doug was a giver! He always had a trinket or treat to give! He will be remembered by many as the man who always gave out candies to the staff and patrons of the many restaurants and businesses he frequented.  Heaven will surely be a more interesting place with Doug in it!

Those left to honor his memory are his children, Rita (Greg) Schnoor and Rich Wingerter; 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; brother, John (Sandra) Wingerter; and sister, Ramona Froehner. 

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Harold (Vivian) Wingerter, Bernard Wingerter, and Mickey (Lucille) Wingerter; daughter, Barbara Wirtjes-Sullivan; life partner, Beverly McCarty; and many good friends.
