Douglas Henry Eckhardt

Douglas “Doug” Eckhardt, 72, of Rock Island, and formerly of Davenport, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at his home following a three-year long battle with cancer.  A celebration of his life will be held from 10am until Noon on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  The rite of cremation will follow.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Douglas Henry Eckhardt was born September 9, 1950, in Davenport, a son of Roy Francis and Marian Jane (Smith) Eckhardt.  He graduated from Central High School, class of 1969.  He was united in marriage to Rhonda Butler on November 15, 2022.

Prior to his retirement, he worked in the gas department for Mid-American Energy.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing on the Mississippi River (especially at Sunset Marina), collecting canes and decorative eggs, and spending time with his family.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Rhonda; children Troy (Cindy) Eckhardt of Conyers, GA, Ricky Christian of Rock Island, De’Taya Eckhardt of Rock Island, Christopher (Rachel) Moore of Ames, IA; grandchildren Alexandrea Eckhardt of Kansas City, KS, Lidell Donaldson of Davenport, James Donaldson of Pine Hill, SC; great granddaughter Remi Jo Eckhardt of Kansas; brothers Roy Eckhardt and Michael (Gaea) Eckhardt all of California, Greg Eckhardt of Davenport; and sister Melodie (Phil) Busch of Blue Grass.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jane Ann.
