Doris Raney

Doris Raney, 87, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Good Samaritan after an extended illness. A Celebration of Life luncheon for family and friends will be 1 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Northgate Place (next to Hy-Vee), 1815 E. Kimberly Road, Davenport. Honoring her wish, cremation took place with burial in Pine Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Doris Mae Wells was born on April 19, 1930 in Davenport, a daughter of John and Emma (Bieber) Wells. She was in part raised by her grandparents Karl and Elizabeth Bieber. She was united in marriage to Allen C. Raney on May 18, 1947 in Davenport. They shared 62 years of marriage and memories together until his death June 16, 2009.

Doris was a homemaker who spent much of her time volunteering for Edgerton's Women's Center, RSVP, and the Good Samaritan Society in whatever activity that was requested. She loved and enjoyed her friendships with neighbors, her exercise groups and the “McDonalds Gang” who met weekly to share coffee and conversation. Doris was an avid reader who enjoyed shopping whenever she could get a bargain.

Doris is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Steve (Paula) Raney, Bettendorf and Richard (Lori) Raney, Davenport; grandchildren, Kelli (Todd) Allen, Bondurant, Iowa, Steven (Jessica) Raney, Montgomery, IL, and Sean (Danielle) Raney, Dallas, TX; great- grandchildren, Courtney and Brady Raes, Chase Allen, Connor Raney, and Gavin Raney; sisters, Betty Cottrell, Davenport, and Rose Pleasant, Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Donald, Thomas, and John “Jack” Wells.
