Donna Grace Slane, 91, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Medical Center East, surrounded by her beloved family.

Born on January 28, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, Donna was the cherished daughter of William G. and Evelyn C. (Brooks) Seibert. She grew up with a vibrant spirit that she carried throughout her life. On April 10, 1954, Donna married Herbert R. Begeske, and together they were blessed with eight children. On May 7, 1977, She married Vernard L. Slane. Donna and Vern shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 1999.

Donna was a woman of adaptability, holding many different jobs throughout her lifetime. Among her favorites, she served as a dedicated police dispatch operator for the Lemont Illinois Police Department, worked making switchboards at Wescom, joyfully helped assist customers as a clerk at Hy-Vee, and brought joy to many at Walgreens, where she proudly worked as a beauty advisor.

Above all her professional endeavors, Donna’s true masterpiece was her family. She was deeply beloved by her children and thrived whenever she was spending time with them. Her legacy of love is beautifully captured in a special book she kept close to her heart—a treasured ledger where she meticulously kept track of her growing family. She was immensely proud of every single grandchild, great-grandchild, and great-great-grandchild added to its pages.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Susan M. Boudreaux (Ricky), Mary A. Mattas (Dan), Michael J. (Olivia) Begeske, Barbara (Dave) Santoro, Herbert R. (Jenny) Begeske, Donna L. (Derone) Combs, Susan A. Novak and James Peterson, her 34 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; along with her brother, William (Sue) Seibert Jr., and numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Preceding her in death are her precious baby, George P. Begeske, father William G. Seibert Sr., mother Evelyn C. Seibert, beloved grandson Jeremy Slane, beloved husband Vernard L. Slane. Connie Seibert, Herbert R Begeske, Randy Boudreaux, Jim Mattas, beloved granddaughter, Heather Frank, beloved son, Scott Slane, loving brother, Robert Seibert, and her beloved daughter, Christine Lee Peterson.

She was an avid donor to St. Jude’s and the Wounded Warriors. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to these organizations.

In accordance with her final wishes, the rite of cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life honoring Donna’s legacy will be held at a later date.
