Donna Marie Chandler was born December 20, 1934, in Maytown, Illinois, to Fred and Susie (Sharkey) Chandler and graduated from Amboy High School. She met her future husband, Marvin Novak Sr, while they were both working at the National Tea grocery store in Mendota, and they were united in marriage on January 7, 1956. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1995.

Prior to her retirement Donna had worked for many years as a cook for La Salle Elementary Schools. She was a participant in the Silver Sneakers program at the YMCA in both Peru and Bettendorf, where she kept fit and socialized with friends. Music brought her happiness, especially listening or singing with old country favorites. She also enjoyed bus trips with friends, which included a couple trips to the Cubs Spring Training in Arizona.

Survivors include her children Susan (Luke) Doyle of Dimmick, IL, Debra (Paul) Michalski of West Branch, IA, Steven (Sue) Novak of Utica, IL, Lisa Novak of Bettendorf; grandchildren Shelly Novak and family Meshae (Armin) Stojanovic and Alectra, Scott Novak, Michael Doyle, Kelly Doyle, Morgan Michalski, Katie (Edward) Davis and family Finley and Gemma, Haleigh (Matt) Kunkel and family Jude, Peyton, and Cade, Alyssa (Danielle) Novak, Daniel Novak, Lindsey (Scott) Novak and Cheyanne.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by son Marvin Jr, twin great grandchildren Lucy and Liam Kunkel, siblings Anna Larson, and Leo and Joseph Chandler.

Donna’s family would especially like to thank “the kids” at The Fountains Senior Living in Bettendorf for all their kindness and love they gave to Grandma Spice.
