Donald D. Wakeland

 Donald D. Wakeland, 91, a resident of Bettendorf, died Friday, February 24, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023 at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital or the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa.

Don was born December 10, 1931 in Muscatine the son of Milo and Vesta (Blake) Wakeland. He married Patricia Cassilly, September 20, 1952 in LeClaire. She preceded him in death, December 2, 2012.

Don worked in the warehouse and as a store clerk at Oscar Mayer for 43 years. Following his retirement he worked part-time as a custodian for Pleasant Valley Schools. Don enjoyed golfing, bowling, ice skating, watching westerns, and traveling on the train. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially wrestling.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Steve (Paula) Wakeland of Pleasant Valley, Mark (Jean) Wakeland of Bettendorf, Paul (Lorrie) Wakeland of Bettendorf, and David Wakeland of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Aileen (Walter) VanAst of Camarillo, California.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mike Wakeland; daughter, Debbie White; and granddaughter, Nicole.
