Donald Claude Olinger, 84, of Davenport, passed away on January 27, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, surrounded by family. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Adventure Christian Church with a luncheon to follow. The family will greet friends from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial fund to be established later.
Don was born on the family farm on July 22, 1941, in Lyndon, Illinois, a son of Donald and Elsie (Allen) Olinger. After graduating from Lyndon High School. He joined the Army National Guard when he was drafted at age 29. He owned his own locker and slaughterhouse in Erie.
He was always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He was constantly volunteering at church and Matthew 25 Ministries. Don was an avid deer hunter and a remarkable fisherman. He took great pleasure in his fishing trips to Canada. He was a powerful, but gentle man. He loved his family above all else.
Those left to honor his memory are his children: Scott (Wendy) Olinger, and Angela Larson; grandchildren, Elijah Olinger, Emily (Greg) Bergthold, Aaron Olinger, Richie Larson, Riley Larson, Ryen “Rocky” Larson, Ryker Larson and Ripley Larson; brother, David (Gladys) Olinger; sister, Sandra Johnson; and sister-in-law, Beverly Olinger.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Neal Olinger, and brother-in-law, Dick Johnson.
