Donald A. Kline

Don Kline, 83, a resident of Davenport, died Sunday, September 3, 2023 at his home.  Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Don will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2023 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport.  Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island with military honors.  Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home with the Divine Chaplet prayed at 6:45 and a time of sharing following.  There will be additional visitation Friday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Care and Share Program.

 

Donald Arthur Kline was born on October 19, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa along with his twin sister, Donna, to LeRoy and Alice (Ritter) Kline.  He graduated from Davenport High School in 1959 where he excelled in wrestling. He proudly served our country in the Army, and was stationed in California and Korea.

 

Don married Sue (Longman) Steining and later was united in marriage to Ellen Langford on May 23, 1998 at St. Anthony’s.  Don worked at the Rock Island Arsenal in the photography department and retired as a manager in the Communication Center at the age of 55.

 

Don was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4403 at St. John Vianney, having served as a past Grand Knight.

 

Don had a great sense of humor, endless curiosity, and never met a stranger.  He loved living life and enjoyed biking and travelling.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ellen, Davenport; children: Scott (Leslie) Kline, Honduras, Kristine Kline, Rockwall, Texas, Todd (Linda) Langford, Wheaton, Illinois, and Jennifer (Todd) Flammang, Blue Grass; grandchildren: Allison Kline—Almand, Alex (Lani) Matthys, Hannah Hindley, Maddy Matthys, Molly Matthys, Nicholas Matthys, Ben Langford, and Ryan Langford; great-grandchildren: Clayton, Alina, and Aspen; sisters, Barbara Kline, Florida, and Kay Wilson, Davenport, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Kline.

 

Don was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Grace Almand, parents, and siblings, Beverly Reese, Edward Kline, Donna Grimm (twin), and Dick Kline. May they rest in peace.
