Donald R. Broderson, 90, of Davenport, IA passed away on Friday the 11th of July 2025. In respect of his wishes there will be a private family gathering at Oakdale cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
Donald Roger Broderson was born September 8th, 1934 in Chicago, IL to John and Essie (Leeds). As a child Don was raised in a family that believed respect was earned, kindness was to be shared and putting your name on your hard work is something to stand by and be proud of.
Don carried these values and implemented them throughout his life. To continue this endeavor, he joined the United States Marine Corps. Where he began his machinist journey. Don was honorably discharged and was on his way to the next chapter of his life.
This chapter proved to be the beginning of a lifelong one. As he found his soulmate Patrica Ann Goode; they were united in marriage on April 7th, 1957. Over the next few years, 4 children would come along to complete their home. To provide a good foundation for his children's lives he decided to better his career. Don set forth his journey in becoming a first-class machinist. For the next 10 years, he worked two jobs while serving his apprenticeship with the Uchtorf Co. Don became one of the elite in his field. This talent and skill advanced his career, as he was hired at Alcoa in 1968.
This is where he was able to become the definition of a 1st class machinist. Over the next 28 years, Don was the one called up on to often invent parts for machines that didn't yet exist. He was the man saving the day more often than not. His kindness and intellect was simply who he was, and to share it was a gift he loved being able to give. The man he was in his professional life didn't stop there. From the many people he met, to his friends, even to the neighborhood kids he was just as admired. Despite the long days, if someone needed him, he never said no, he was always right there to help in every way he could. His name stood tall, proud and that bell rings true to this very day.
After retiring in 1996, Don was able to enjoy his passions of good friends, old cars, and the joys of all joys hard work had given to him and those surrounding him. One special gift was Sunday races with his son. These races were a staple in his weekly routine, a time not only for them, also for the many hearts of the patrons who never saw them apart. The bond they shared and the memories they made for themselves, and others will be etched in the hearts of many for all eternity.
Don will always be known for his work ethics, his incredible values, his gentle kindness and a laugh alongside a smile that will never be forgotten.
Those left to carry on his values, his kindness, and his memory are his three children, Connie (Dennis) Herron, Lee (Dodie) Broderson, and Carol (Frank) Henson, as well as his grandchildren Leann, Eric, Elise, Johnny, David, Melissa, 11 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Clara, brother Richard and his daughter in law Molly.
In lieu of flowers, carry on his legacy with the opportunities you're given to simply be kind.
