Dolores Herrera was born on September 15, 1928 in the Cooks Point neighborhood of Davenport, Iowa. She is the daughter of Rosario and Maria Juanita (Torres) Herrera. Lola grew up with six other siblings. She married Rudolph “Bob” Segura and together, they raised four children.

Lola worked for over 30 years at Oscar Mayer in Davenport as a meat cutter and later worked in housekeeping at St. Ambrose University, and Marycrest College. She was a loyal member of LULAC Council 10, and Friendly House Senior Center

If you had the lucky chance to know Lola, you knew she was a free-spirit. Lola was unapologetically herself. She treated everyone like they were one of her own family members from letting people stay with her in a time of need, giving folks a ride home, or inviting over people for dinner. She was a home away from home. Lola enjoyed spending her time dancing, thrifting (long before it was cool), shopping (mostly at Von Maur), and quality time with her family.

Those left to honor her memory are her children: Robert (Ruth) Segura, East Moline, Debbie Sheets, Rock Island, and Lisa Herrig, Bettendorf; a daughter-in-law, Jan Segura, Milan, Illinois; grandchildren: Anastasia (Rich), Michaeline, Lindsey (Jesse), Desiree (Seth), Darrin (Holly),

Catherine, and Lauren; fifteen great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; a brother, Michael Herrera, Bettendorf, many nieces and nephews, and her faithful grand pup Millie, who always brightened her days.

She was preceded in death by her son, Rene Segura, sons-in-law, David Sheets and Peter Herrig, her parents, and siblings: Carmella Lira, Lyle Herrera, Raymond Herrera, Rebecca Terronez, and Fernando Herrera. May they all rest in peace.
