Dolores "Susie" Ann (Sexton) Loose, 92, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Medical Center East.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Susie was born on October 25, 1933, in Davenport, the first of thirteen children born to John Robert and Anna Margaret (Devlin) Sexton. She grew up in a bustling, loving household. Her early education was in country schools where Sextons made up a large part of the class. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1952.
On December 19, 1953, Susie married the love of her life, Elvert Gene Loose, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. They shared over 60 years together before Elvert's passing in 2014.
Susie’s co-workers at Eagle Food Center were like a second family. She began her career at age 15 as a cashier at the State Street store in Bettendorf, later managing the non-foods department at Store #122 on Locust Street in Davenport. She retired in 1991 after 43 years.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, enjoyed stamp collecting, was an avid reader, found great joy working in her yard when she was able, and was a devoted fan of Chicago sports teams—especially the Cubs. She was also very proud of her family.
She is survived by her children, Steven (Kathy) Loose, Gary Loose, and Julie (Mark) Newton, all of Davenport; siblings, Theresa Jean Woodard of Bettendorf, Elizabeth Jane Richmiller (Joseph) of Grand Mound, Kathleen Frances Creer (Phillip) of Adelaide, Australia, and William Patrick Sexton of Davenport; sisters-in-law, Karen Kay Sexton of Bettendorf, Joyce Elaine Loose Anderson of Moline, and Sue (Robert) Jennings of Princeton, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Walt Miller of Sherrard, Illinois; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Van Hyfte, Rachael Loose, Katherine Loose, Amanda Newton, Jessica (Jacob) Ryder, and Tyler Newton; and great-grandchildren, Lila and Penelope Van Hyfte, Harper and Raelyn Powell, Russell Bartz, Raegan and Rozlyn Ryder, and Marion and Brooklyn Newton; and many other friends and relatives in the Quad-Cities area.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Elvert; her daughter, Susan Jean Loose; her parents, John and Anna; and her siblings, Margaret Patricia, Mary Gertrude, David Robert, Richard Lee, Daniel Lester, John Michael, Terrance Phillip, and Timothy Alan.
