Obituary

With faith in the promise of everlasting life, we announce the passing of Diane M. Rodgers of Bettendorf, who entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born on September 5, 1944, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Diane was the daughter of Marion Francis "Pro" and Verna Mae (Paul) Prochaska. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School and went on to attend the University of Iowa, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and pursued postgraduate studies in Cultural Anthropology.

While studying at the University of Iowa, Diane met James William Rodgers, whom she married on June 20, 1970, at First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Their marriage marked the beginning of a loving and devoted partnership that spanned more than 46 years.

The newlyweds started their married life in Dallas, Texas, where Diane worked as a Medical Social Worker at Presbyterian Hospital. During her time there, she helped establish the hospital's first Social Services Department. Together, Diane and Jim navigated several moves across the country, as well as the challenges of infertility. Their prayers were ultimately answered with the birth of their son, John, followed eighteen months later by their daughter, Catherine.

Eventually, Diane and Jim returned to the Quad Cities, where they built a beautiful life together. They complemented one another in every way and found great joy in raising their children and building a successful business through hard work, perseverance, and sacrifice. Their home was grounded in faith, hospitality, cherished traditions, and unconditional love

A devoted Catholic convert, Diane's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Through prayer, daily Mass, and service at St. Anthony Catholic Church, she generously shared her time and talents with her parish and community. By her example, she instilled in her children and grandchildren a legacy of love, compassion, and service that continues to inspire them to seek opportunities to help others in both big and small ways, revealing God's love through their actions.

Diane's beautiful smile and childlike wonder were infectious. She possessed a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and loved. She made friends wherever she went, genuinely investing in the lives of those she encountered each day. Whether through a carefully chosen card, a thoughtful gift, an exquisitely prepared tablescape, or a favorite family recipe, she celebrated life's special moments with warmth, grace, and attention to detail. Her broccoli casserole, cheesecake, and Friendship Cake became cherished family traditions.

The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers and staff of The Fountains Assisted Living and Memory Care and the St. Croix Hospice team, whose compassionate and loving care were a blessing to Diane and a comfort to her family as she endured the heartbreaking effects of Alzheimer's Disease.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her son, John William Rodgers, and grandson, Kirin James Rodgers; her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Elizabeth and David Hamling, and their children, Henry David and James William, all of Bettendorf; her sisters, Delores Prochaska-Sellers and Marlene Ann Becotte; many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded in death by her husband and infant daughter. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

In accordance with Diane's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to join in praying the Rosary at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 N. Main Street, Davenport, Iowa, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held immediately following the Mass. The family will then gather for a private committal service at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where Diane will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, James.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Woman's Choice Center, St. Philomena Academy Youth Camp of Bettendorf, or St. Anthony Catholic Church of Davenport.
