David Patterson, DC, 81, of Davenport, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Arrangements were entrusted to Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home.
David was born July 8, 1944, in Davenport to Howard Russell and Marjorie Magdalene (Whezman) Patterson. From an early age, he carried a curiosity about the world and a determination to carve his own path. He attended three years of high school at a military academy in Missouri before returning to Davenport to graduate. Soon after, he answered the call to serve, joining the Army and spending time stationed in both Washington and Alaska, places that would shape his spirit of adventure for the rest of his life.
Education was a lifelong pursuit for David. He studied at St. Ambrose University, earned a Master of Arts from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and later completed his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Palmer College. His career in chiropractic care spanned more than four decades and took him across the country, touching countless lives with his skill, dedication, and straightforward honesty. In his later years, he returned to Palmer College as an instructor, sharing his knowledge with the next generation of practitioners.
David lived boldly. In his younger years, he worked as a smoke jumper in Alaska, an experience that became one of his most cherished stories. He traveled extensively throughout his life, collecting memories from around the globe. He often spoke of his journeys with a sense of wonder, as though he had lived not just one lifetime, but several.
Those who knew David will remember him as a man of conviction, kind, direct, and unafraid to speak his mind. He valued authenticity and held deep pride in the people he cared about. His friends and family were often the subjects of his stories, told with admiration and affection.
David is survived by his nephews, Russell and Trent Patterson, and his nieces, Heather Candels and Elizabeth Patterson-Downend. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Clayton and Nick Patterson.
