David Lee Britton

David Lee Britton, 74, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus, Davenport.  Per his request the rite of cremation was accorded, and private inurnment was in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.  Memorials may be made to any veteran related charity or Shriners Childrens Hospital.

 

David was born February 15, 1949, in Moline, Il, a son of Arlo Britton and Geraldine Ruth (Drain) Ballard.  He was united in marriage to Susan L. Mooney on April 7, 1971, in Blue Grass.

 

He served his country in the Army from 1969 – 1970 and was a combat veteran. 

 

Prior to his retirement, he had worked for United Neighbors building houses and making homes accessible for the handicapped and disabled. 

 

He loved car racing, monster trucks, Harley Davidson motorcycles, fishing, hunting, watching football, westerns, and doing stuff with his grandchildren.

 

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters Nancy Britton of Davenport, Maryruth Britton of Davenport, Cassie Essex of Davenport, Kayla Britton of Southaven, MS; stepson Scotty Essex of Davenport, stepdaughters Jessica Jackson of Davenport, Wendy Young of Cordova, TN; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters Diane Bysinger of Milan, Mary Christner of Barlow, FL, Damaris Britton – Jenkins of Tennessee, Lisa Ballard of Tennessee; brother Lyle Ballard of Burlington, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dennis and Danny Britton, and longtime significant other Teresa C. Essex.
