Darryl Roland Kirkpatrick, 64, of Davenport, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at The Ivy of Davenport. Per his wish the rite of cremation will be accorded, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Darryl was born December 26, 1959, in Davenport, the only son and youngest of the five children born to Roland and June (Zinger) Kirkpatrick.
He was a member of Union Local 85 IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) and had been a lighting technician for bands and events until his health forced him to retire. Most notably he did the lighting for local rock legends Lynn Allen and was among the first employees hired at The MARK of the Quad Cities (now Vibrant Arena at the MARK) in Moline. He was affectionally known as “Chief Running Lights” due to his Native American heritage and long black hair. He had also been a truck driver for Dohrn Transfer Company in Rock Island.
Darryl enjoyed listening to live music, camping, fishing, watching westerns, NASCAR races and was a Dale Earnhardt fan.
Those left to honor his memory include his sisters and brothers-in-law Denise (Tighe) Hallowell, Kathleen “Kay” Bartosch, Cindy (James) Curta, all of Davenport, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Cheryl “Cheri” Smahaj.
