Darlene M. Copenhafer

Darlene M. Copenhafer, 86, of Davenport, died Friday, January 2, 2026 at Ridgecrest Village, Davenport.

A memorial service for Darlene will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Lost Nation Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church or Grandview Baptist Church.

Darlene Mae Copenhafer was born on August 20, 1939 on her family’s farm in Clinton County, Iowa, a daughter of Ray and Alice Mae (Irons) Copenhafer. She graduated from Calamus High School in 1957 and moved to Davenport to attended Brussell’s Beauty School. Darlene owned and operated her own beauty shop for 36 years, retiring in 2013.

Darlene worshiped her Lord at New Life Baptist, Grandview Baptist, and First Baptist, Davenport. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, particularly the CASI Red Hat Society where she served as Queen Mother for two years. She also belonged to the Elks, Rock Island, Royal Neighbors, Catfish Jazz Society, St. Patrick’s Society, and was a Plus 60 member.

Darlene loved to cook, dance, and listening to good gospel music. She was also a prolific card player, enjoying euchre games at the VFW in Bettendorf and CASI.

Those left to honor her memory are her sister: Verna Smith, Grand Mound, Iowa; nephews, Rob (Tanya) Paulsen, Davenport, and Gary (Beth) Paulsen, DeWitt; great-niece, Iva Mae Paulsen; Goddaughter, Lynette Parr, New Liberty, Iowa, good friend, Sharon Batten, Davenport, as well as many cousins.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Roger Smith. May they rest in peace.
