Daniel “Dan” Hughes, 69, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Good Samaritan, Davenport. A memorial gathering will be held from 4-7pm on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport with a prayer service offered at 6:30pm. There will be a celebration of his life held at a later date.
Daniel Henry Hughes was born August 15, 1956, in Davenport, to Robert “Bob” and Madonna (Adrian) Hughes. He was united in marriage to Deborah “Debbie” Roggenkamp in 1980 and although they later divorced there was always love and they remained close friends. She preceded him in death on January 3, 2019.
Prior to his retirement in 2022, Dan had worked at the former Lujack Auto Plaza for almost 40 years as a master mechanic whose skill and dedication left a mark on countless Honda, Mazda, and Toyota vehicles. Known for his sharp mind, steady hands, and love for life, he lived with passion both in his work and in the things he enjoyed most.
Outside of the garage, Dan had many talents and interests. He loved the camaraderie of playing softball and golf, found peace in fishing, and cherished every moment spent with his granddaughters, who were the pride of his life. He looked forward each summer to lighting up the sky with fireworks on the Fourth of July and was happiest surrounded by family, laughter, and celebration.
A true lover of music, Dan enjoyed attending live shows, playing guitar, and singing karaoke with friends. He also had a competitive streak, once reaching the rank of 3rd in the world as a darts player and playing picks up until 2022.
Dan was also an original member of the West End Canoe Club, where he built lifelong friendships and memories on the water.
He will be remembered as a man of great talent, humor, and heart; someone who worked hard, played harder, and loved deeply. His family and friends will hold tight to the many stories, songs, and memories he leaves behind.
Those left to share those stories include his children Jackie (Robert) Shields of Blue Grass, Scott Hughes of Davenport, Jessica (Dylan) Keppy Merrick of Gravel Switch, KY; mother Madonna Hughes of Davenport; siblings Robert (Jennifer) Hughes of Louisville, KY, Patricia Paulsen of House Springs, MO, Thomas (Debra) Hughes of Davenport, Charles (Gigi) Hughes of Donahue, IA, Mary Mayo of House Springs, Karen (Mike) Kershaw of House Springs, and Ralph (Annette) Hughes of Blue Grass; and many nieces and nephews.
Additionally, he was preceded in death by his father Bob, and sister Kathy Sadler.
