Constance J. “Connie” (Bahl) Wall, 74, of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away the morning of December 24, 2025, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois as her children and siblings kept vigil. Funeral will be held at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 12:00 pm, with visitation starting at 10:30 am. Entombment will be held at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque.
A daughter of James P. and Mary E. (Schuckert) Bahl, Connie was born December 10, 1951, in Dubuque, IA. Eldest of eight, Connie set an example for her siblings to follow. Blessed with intelligence, she was a model student and became a lifelong learner. Connie was one to look up to, even if she was the shortest. In her formative years, Connie participated in 4-H and Girl Scouts, and enjoyed roller skating, ice skating, bowling, and playing piano.
Graduating from Wahlert High School in 1970, Connie attended Clark College to study Computer Science before it was cool. A slight detour followed when Connie married Joseph (Joe) Wall on May 11, 1974, at Church of the Resurrection in Dubuque. Relocating to the Quad Cities, their family soon grew with their first-born, Elizabeth, and again a few years later when Julie came along.
Connie began her career at Digital Equipment Corporation, learning along with the rapidly-changing computer industry. At home, her daughters grew up with flexible expectations of parental/gender roles. Later, 13 years after their first, their youngest Kai, was born. With the support of her husband Joe and her kids, Connie left Digital and went back to school, earning a degree in Business and Accounting — something she was very proud of.
Leaving the spotlight to her husband, Connie was the quieter, thoughtful friend. She thoroughly enjoyed her small-group activities – bowling, numerous card clubs, camping trips, and so many shared meals, both at home and out. As a hostess, she pored over new recipes and faithfully made old favorites (carrot cake!) time and time again.
Connie also enjoyed volunteering, gardening, and planning extensive road trips. Over the course of her lifetime, she acquired a mini-AAA home library collection. While traveling, she loved taking pictures of everything, with particular fondness for lighthouses, flowers, and her family. At home, and at her core, she strove to be a fierce protector and supporter of her children.
Left to carry on her memory are those children – Elizabeth, Julie, and Kai. She is also survived by her siblings, Larry (Angelica) Bahl, Kris Bahl, Dennis Bahl, Don (Lisa) Bahl, Richard (Tanya) Bahl, and Michelle Bahl; her in-laws: Karen McClain, Jim (Kay) Wall, Tom (Kathy) Wall, Judy (Joe) Daack, Steve Wall, Rita (Dave) Melssen, and Lisa Wall; as well as countless nieces and nephews, and subsequent generations. Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe (2018); parents, Jim and Mary; brother, Jim; brothers-in-law Dan Perea and Jerry Wall; and sisters-in-law, Julie Bahl, Irene Blaser, and Terry Bahl.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Parks Foundation are appreciated.
