Connie Jo Carroll was born on November 11, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Dorothy Jane (Hatfield) and Paul W. Carroll, Jr. When she was born, she had 12 living grandparents. She attended a one room schoolhouse in West Des Moines for one year, before moving to Davenport in the 3rd Grade. Connie graduated from Davenport High School in 1957. She was united in marriage to William Richard Rashid II on September 6, 1957. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1980.
Connie’s career included working as a Realtor alongside her father, as the office manager for Senator Roger Jepsen’s Davenport office and later enjoyed her time at Four Seasons and her work in women’s fashion.
Connie loved collecting, especially antiques, and enjoyed the friendships she formed with fellow enthusiasts through groups such as the “Questers” and “Sudlow Sisters.” She stayed connected with her high school classmates through monthly breakfasts and brought positivity and a sense of community to Senior Star, where she organized card games and shared her love of playing cards. Affectionately known as “Grammie” to her family, Connie treasured family gatherings and was always looking forward to the next one. For the past decade, her annual birthday trips with her children and their spouses were a particularly cherished tradition.
In 1983, Connie was reacquainted with Don Herrman whom she had known in years past, through local politics. They soon became a couple. They enjoyed big band music, dancing, playing golf and spending their time with family and friends in both the Quad Cities and Naples, FL. Don passed in January of 2015.
Those left to honor her memory are her children and their spouses: William (Susan) Rashid III, Laura Dwyer, Michael (Kelly) Rashid, all of Bettendorf, and David Rashid, Neenah, Wisconsin; grandchildren: William Rashid IV, Paul Rashid , Jason (Melissa) Rashid, Justin Mott, Jessica Mott, Anna Robinson (Curtis Prull), James Robinson (Lexi Wilkens), Emily (Colbie) Andes, Stephen (Kate) Rashid, Hannah (Samuel) Russell, Katie (Cory) Holcomb, James (Emily) Rashid, Philip (Jaime) Rashid; great-grandchildren: Alina, Abraham, Madi, Bob Rashid, Peyton Mott, Arthur Atwell, Eleanor, Sidney, and Finnley Andes, Freddy and Lucy Rashid, Roma and Lennon Jo Russell (born on the day Connie died), Ezra, Hazel, Anneli Holcomb, Eby, Ada, Abel, and Miles Rashid; as well as beloved nieces and nephew, Julie, Jeff, and Kathy.
In addition to her husband, Connie was preceded in death by her parents. May they rest in God’s eternal peace.
