Charlotte Marie Colman was born on July 23, 1939 in Rock Island, Illinois, a daughter of Raymond and Elodie (Heyninck) Colman. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1957. Charlotte was united in marriage to Ronald F. Light on October 22, 1960 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Ron preceded her in death on October 2, 2010 just three weeks shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Charlotte grew up, worked, and even lived at Colman Florist in Rock Island. Charlotte founded and operated the Davenport store where she managed the business with love and commitment for over 45 years. She was past president of the Professional Florist Club of the Quad Cities, was a FTD representative inspecting floral shops throughout the Midwest. She won many FTD competitions including representing Iowa at the national level as well as many awards with her designs at the Festival of Trees.
Charlotte enjoyed sewing, quilting, and playing cards, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, as well as “investing” at our local casinos. She had been active as a Girl Scout Leader and was a debutante in her early days. Her greatest joy was her family and being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The Light family have many fond memories of summer vacations spent at their place in Minnesota.
Those left to honor her memory are her children and their spouses: Steve (Kathy) Light, Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Kevin (Sherrie) Light, Cindy (Kevin) DeNike, all of Davenport, and Julie (Steve) White, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren: Trevor (Stacy) Light , Ryan Light, and Sean Light, Samantha (Pete) Cross, Kelley Light, Alexis (Nick) Rasso, Jacob (Jada) Light, and Charlie Light, Paxton DeNike, Austin White, and Ryley White; great-grandchildren: Carter, Liam, Elodie, Joey, Isabella, JoAnna, and Jemma; siblings: Lou Rae Hoogerwerf, Iowa City, Pat (Ken) Belvel, Bettendorf, Pam (Denny) McCullough, Muscatine, a sister-in-law, Sheri Colman, Rock Island, and her best friend since high school, Jolane Otto, Bettendorf.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Gerald, Geraldine, Ronnie and Richard Colman. May they rest in peace.
