Mr. Smith passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at The Highlands, Decorah, IA.
Charles William Smith Jr, was born May 26, 1949, in Dubuque, to Charles and Dorinda “Dorothy” (Kowalski) Smith Sr. He was united in marriage to Agnes Weis in 1970 and later to Susan (Sickels) Kueter on March 10, 1974, in Galena, IL.
His life took him down some interesting paths, including working as both a probation officer for the 7th Judicial District for the state of Iowa and a bounty hunter. Careers that certainly gave him plenty of experiences and stories to share.
Chuck loved anything with an engine; racing sprint cars, riding motorcycles, working on engines, and classic cars. He enjoyed guns, playing bass guitar, and spending time socializing with friends. He appreciated good company, a good conversation, and the opportunity to share a few stories.
More than anything, he was someone people could count on. He was always willing to lend a hand, no matter what time of day or night someone needed him. If you called, he would be there.
Those left to honor his memory include his children Dawn Marie Kirkpatrick of Cedar Rapids, Chuck (Rachel) Smith III of Davenport, and Dawn (Fred) Correa of Colona, IL; grandchildren Breanna, Shania, Eyliah, Kyley, Abbi, Charlie IV, Jacob, Samantha, Anthony, Paul; and great grandchildren Oliver, Drayden, and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Paula Kueter, and son Paul Maxwell.
