Charles R. Simon, Sr.

Charles R. Simon, Sr., 96, a resident of Davenport, died Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme in Davenport.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 9^th at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. An additional visitation will be one hour prior to mass at the church on Friday. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Free Church, Moline.

Charles was born September 14, 1926 in Davenport, the son of Charles H. and Theresa (Miller) Simon. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific aboard the USS Polk. On September 18, 1948 he married Mary Lou Harris. She preceded him in death, June 30, 2015.

Charles worked as a machinist for the Rock Island Arsenal. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and was an excellent cook. He was self-proclaimed as “The Pie Man”.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Charles (Chris) Simon, Jr. of Davenport, Kathy (Terry) Boland of Bettendorf, and James (BJ) Simon of Vienna, Virginia; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob; and sister, Gert.
