Charles “Charlie” E. Franklin, age 75, of Davenport, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. A Celebration of his life will be held following the visitation at the Starlight Ballroom – Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. Private burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Gilda’s Club of the Quad Cities, or to the family. The family requests that you dress casually wearing St. Louis Cardinals or your favorite sports theme attire.
Charlie was born on December 20, 1948, in Milan, MO, to Russell and Opal (Daniels) Franklin. He graduated from Davenport Central High School. On September 13, 1969, Charlie was united in marriage to Nora “Beanie” Strassburger in Davenport. She preceded him in death on June 12, 1988.
Charlie worked his entire career at the Pillsbury Company retiring in 2009. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and any team his grandson played on, mainly the Davenport North Wildcats.
Survivors include a daughter, Julie Franklin-Smith; son, Chris (Jennifer) Franklin; his pride and joy, grandson, Max Smith; and siblings, Dorothy Smith, Marge Phelps, and Larry Franklin; several nieces and nephews; and girlfriend, Cheryl Puls.
In addition to his parents and wife, Charlie was preceded in death by siblings, George Franklin, John Franklin, Jim Franklin, Betty Foster, and Nellie Dixon.
