Cecilia A. Braam, 94, formerly of Davenport, Iowa died Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Shorehaven Skilled Care Center, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Memorials may be made to Holy Family Parish or, Figge Art Museum or Friends of Vander Veer.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

 

Cecilia was born on January 30, 1929 in Davenport, a daughter of Arnold and Johanna M. (teDuits) Braam. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy and Marycrest College and later earned her Masters Degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.  She also attended post graduate studies at the University of Chicago.

 

Cecilia was a social worker for over 30 years at Catholic Social Services in Milwaukee, assisting hundreds of families with adoptions, retiring in 1991.  She also lectured at Marquette University in the Social Work department.

 

As a faithful member of Holy Family Parish, she served as a lector.  She was also a member of Daughters of Isabella, Putnam Museum Guild, Friends of Vander Veer, and the Plus 60 group. Cecilia volunteered at the Figge Art Museum, and the Davenport Public Library.

 

Cecilia loved to travel.  She enjoyed road trips to all 50 states, traveled to World Fairs, to most European countries, Russia, Egypt, China, the Holy Land, Australia, and Antarctica.  She enjoyed learning new cultures, meeting local people, and engaging with fellow travelers. 

 

Survivors include her niece and nephews: Joanne (Richard) Carr, Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Michael (Sue) Braam, Denton, Texas, and David (Paula) Braam, Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, six great nieces and nephews and cousins: Helene Hood, Davenport, and Ben (Marilyn) teDuits, Madison, Wisconsin.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, John Bolder, and siblings, Mary Braam and Theodore “Ted” (Mildred) Braam.  May they rest in peace.
