Cecelia “Cece” Ann Fichtner passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Senior Star, Davenport surrounded by her family. Private family services have taken place and she was laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, King's Harvest Pet Rescue, Project Renewal, or the memorial of your choice. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home has assisted the family with arrangements.
Cece was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 9, 1943, the daughter of Lucille (Spaeth) and John M. Hyland, Sr. When she was nine years old the family moved to Davenport. Cece graduated from Assumption High School in 1961 and then attended and received her cosmetologist license from Rex's Beauty Academy. She was subsequently employed at Sherry's Tint and Tone, and later at Gary's Beauty Salon. She also volunteered with the Catholic Service Board.
She met Walt Fichtner while in grade school and after graduating from beauty school Cece married Walt on September 14th, 1963 at Holy Family Catholic Church. She would accompany her husband to Kami Seya, Japan where he was stationed at a U.S. Naval Intelligence Base. During Walt's military assignment they participated in a two day climb to the top of Mt. Fuji to observe the sunrise which is a Japanese ritual. They also spent many years enjoying their condo on Lake Delton, Wisconsin.
Cece was a loving mother to her two children: Elisa and Jeffrey and an adoring grandmother to Kelsey and Bud. Cece loved to bowl and spent over forty years bowling in leagues. She fished, golfed, and played bridge with the same group for over fifty years. She enjoyed many years walking at the mall and participated in fifteen Bix 7 runs. Cece loved following the Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball teams. She had a mesmerizing smile and enjoyed socializing with family and friends.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband of over 61 years, Walt, Davenport; daughter Elisa (John) Klein, Davenport, son Jeffrey Fichtner, Lakewood, Colorado, granddaughter Kelsey Klein, Davenport, grandson Bud (Dani) Klein, Laveen, Arizona, brother Jeff (Judy) Hyland, Apache Junction, Arizona, sister Diane (Matthew) Ketelaar, Davenport, sister-in-law Gloria (Carl) Nunnari, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews and all her furry friends through the years whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Lucille Hyland, a brother, Monsignor John Hyland, her father-in-law Walt, mother-in-law Ruth, and sister-in-law Joan.
