Funeral services and Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Cathleen “Cathy” Sebille, 86, of Davenport, will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 28 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Cremation has been accorded. Inurnment will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be Sunday from 12-2pm at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.
Mrs. Sebille passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis, Davenport.
Cathleen Ann Murphy was born July 15, 1940, in Galva, IL, to Timothy Peter and Bridget Catherine (Curran) Murphy. The family moved to Monticello, IA, and she graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Monticello and then the former American Institute of Commerce in Davenport. She was united in marriage to Donald Sebille on November 11, 1963, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Don preceded her in death on August 5, 2017.
Prior to her retirement in 2003, Cathy worked in the collections department for the former Davenport Bank & Trust Co. for 25 years and as a senior account executive and supervisor for Quad City Bank & Trust for 9 years.
If there was one thing she could never have too much of, it was a good book. She was a voracious reader, and the library was one of her favorite places to be.
But as much as she loved her books, nothing compared to the joy her grandchildren brought into her life. They truly filled her world with light and joy. She loved watching them grow, hearing what was happening in their lives, and being there for all the little moments that became such important memories. Her grandchildren knew they were loved, and she was happiest when she was surrounded by family.
Her faith was another constant in her life. When COVID changed the way people gathered for Mass, she found a way to keep her faith at the center of her days. She began attending Mass online, and she didn't limit herself to one church. She followed Masses from churches all across the country. It was a wonderful reflection of her curiosity and determination to stay connected to something that meant so much to her.
And then there was her role as a mother. She was the kind of parent who, as the years passed, became a friend. Her children could come to her not only because she was their mom, but because she was someone they could talk to, laugh with, and count on. That transition from parent to friend was one of the most meaningful parts of their relationship.
She will be deeply missed, but the stories she loved, the faith she held close, and most of all, the love she gave her family will continue to be part of the lives she touched.
Survivors include her children Jeffrey (Susan) Sebille of Davenport, Michael Sebille of Fargo, ND, Jennifer Sebille of Des Plaines, IL, and Julie (Kevin) Patton of Glenview, IL; grandchildren Daniel, Aaron, and Brian Sebille, Abigail Sebille, and Brendan Patton; sisters Loretta (William) Wall of Holland, MI, and Maureen (Rand) Bergeson of Tuscola, IL; and sister-in-law Sharon Murphy of Pekin, IL.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Gregory Dennis and Timothy John, and a stillborn brother, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marge and Al Sebille, sister-in-law Patricia Murphy, and brother-in-law William Wall.
