Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Carol T. Glaser, 93, of Bettendorf, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. in the gathering space at St. John Vianney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Vianney or the American Cancer Society. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Carol died peacefully, Thursday, August 28, 2025 at The Fountains, Assisted Living, Bettendorf.
Carol Theresa Schugel was born April 28, 1932 on a farm south of New Ulm, Minnesota. The 7th of 9 children of Ann B. (Schaefer) and John Q. Schugel. She attended Catholic Schools in New Ulm. She lived on a farm until she was 14 years old when her family moved to New Ulm.
Carol met her husband, James J. “Jim” Glaser, while working at a café. They were married December 1, 1951 at St Mary's Chapel, Fort Riley, Kansas. Carol enjoyed being an Army wife for 19 years and a mother living on many military installations in the United States and 7 years in Germany. When Jim retired from the Army in 1970 they settled in Bettendorf.
Carol devoted herself to raising their children and was a volunteer for many years as a school room mother, with Girl and Boy Scouts and her church. She belonged to the Forever Young Group at St John Vianney. Since 1988 she has been a volunteer at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop in Bettendorf. Carol is a charter member of St John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf and a Eucharistic Minister.
Following Jim’s retirement from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1992, Carol and Jim have enjoyed traveling all over the United States and the world. Carol and Jim also enjoyed riding their motorcycle for more than 50 years.
Carol is survived by her husband, James “Jim”; children: Jim II (Jeanette), Bettendorf, Debbi (Corey) Gordon, Moline, Penny (Tim) Kroul, Davenport, Dennis, Bettendorf; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; two sisters, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Kroul, daughter-in-law, Julie Glaser, her parents, two brothers, and four sisters- who she will now join in Heaven.
