Carol Ann Rodgers was born on June 20, 1937, in Moline, Illinois, a daughter of William H. and Catherine D. (Loos) Rodgers. Following graduation from the Immaculate Conception Academy in 1955, Carol entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary where she became Sister Mary Diane. While in the convent, she attended Marycrest College in Davenport and earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and education (and a minor in theater) and used it to teach in her ministry.
Following twelve years of religious life, she sought a new vocation and later was united in marriage to Dale W. Boomershine on July 3,1968 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Moline. Dale preceded her in death on August 31, 2017.
Carol continued her teaching career at Wilson Elementary in Davenport and later retired from John F. Kennedy Catholic School in 1986 where she taught music.
Gifted in the fiber arts, Carol used her talents to craft beautiful works of art. She was a longtime member of the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild. Carol’s thirst for knowledge and love of history and theater led her to the 16th Iowa Veterans Volunteer Infantry, with whom she enjoyed doing Civil War Re-Enactments and made life-long friends. She created historically accurate costumes and often played the part of Annie Wittenmyer.
Carol played piano and organ since she was 12 years old and shared her gift of music with the parishioners at St. Anthony Catholic Church for many years. She was an accompanist for weddings, funerals, and various musical productions. She acted in community theater and would cite Ouisa Boudreau in Steel Magnolias as one of her favorite roles. She was a proud stock owner of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed cheering them on, especially if, by chance, they won.
Carol is survived by her children: Mark (Cassie) Boomershine, DeWitt, Erika (John) Hancock, Davenport; grandchildren: Emily (Jacob) Arneth, Luke Boomershine, Madison, Lily, and Samantha Hancock, as well as her sisters.
In addition to her husband, Dale, Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings.
