Brenda Joy Oderwald

Brenda Joy Oderwald, "Big Bird", 44, of Davenport, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the Walcott Coliseum. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family.

Brenda was born to William Ashby and Cheryl Mooney on May 23, 1981, in Davenport, Iowa. Brenda married the love of her life Shawn Oderwald on August 20, 2022 at the Walcott Coliseum.

A graduate of Clinton High School, class of 2000, Brenda's career as a factory line worker with Liberty Packaging showcased her strong work ethic and caring heart to her peers. In her leisure time, Brenda found joy in simple pleasures, such as indulging in adult coloring books, a pastime that reflected her artistic spirit. Recently, she had taken to refurbishing her yard, illuminating it with solar lighting.

Brenda's personality was characterized by her kindness and welcoming nature. Her highest priority was ensuring her home was a sanctuary for those in need. With an open-door policy, she helped others every chance she had. As a loving mother, she nurtured her children with unwavering support and affection, fostering a family bound by love.

Brenda is survived by her devoted husband, Shawn Oderwald, who shared countless cherished moments with her; her father, William (Rose) Ashby; her mother, Cheryl (Don) Mooney; her father in law, Jeffrey Sr. Oderwald; her children, Paige, Preston, and Oakley Oderwald; her step-children, Shawn Jr. (Rachel) Oderwald, Dakota (Amber) Oderwald, Landon (James) Oderwald, and Kezra (Michael) Harbron; her siblings Tanya Johnson, Julie (Eugene) Graves, Dan (Havilah) Ashby, and Brian (Jennifer) Ashby; her siblings-in-law Jeff Jr. Oderwald and John (Josie) Oderwald; her cherished grandmother, Sandra "Sandy" Dooms; many loving aunts, uncles, neices, and nephews; her beloved friends, and her canine companion Bosco.

Brenda was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Sally Oderwald, her uncle, Donald "Donny" Dooms, her step-daughters Hope Oderwald and Evelyn Jensen, and her beloved dog, Sasha.
