Bradley W. Porter

Bradley W. “Brad” Porter, 71, of Davenport, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Medical Center, Davenport surrounded by his family.

Bradley William Porter was born January 7, 1955, in Davenport, a son of Donald A. and Jean Louise (Moeller) Porter. He graduated from Davenport West High School in 1973 where he was apart of the 1972 State Champion 200 yard Medley Relay swimming team. Following graduation, he earned an appointment to West Point where a case of appendicitis and a change of heart led him back to University of Iowa where he received a scholarship for the swim team.

Brad was united in marriage to Joan E. Andresen on September 18, 1982, at Faith United Church of Christ in Davenport.

Brad was employed by Hillman Corporation before transitioning into car sales, working for Smart Luxury specializing in selling German cars before retiring in 2024. He had been a longtime member of the Elks Club, regularly volunteering for the free throw shootout. Brad also was a longtime volunteer at the Mississippi Valley Blues Fest where he manned the beer tent.

Brad was a man who lived life on his own terms. He was a father, husband and most importantly a great friend. Always the first person to offer you a cold one, he loved music, baseball and cars. He was a natural salesman who always thought of others. In the summer you’d likely find him at a Bandits game or in Milwaukee watching the Brewers. A former Division 1 swimmer, and forever a Hawkeye, who probably enjoyed “extracurricular” activities a little more than he did swimming when he was in college! Brad loved music and could always be found in the basement listening to his collection of vinyl or tuned into satellite radio with a beverage in front of him. He will be missed by many, especially by his family.

Those left to honor Brad’s memory are his wife of 43 years, Joan, Davenport; children: Lauren (Chris) Bitetto, Dumont, New Jersey and Jack Porter (Colleen Porter), Bettendorf; grandsons: Cole and Luke; a brother, Doug Porter, Davenport; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Phil (Cathy) Andresen, Davenport, and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A time to gather and celebrate Brad’s life will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport with a memorial service and time of sharing at 6:30 p.m. Private burial will take place in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, where Brad was a 20 + gallon donor.
