Blaine H Flack Jr., 75, a long-time resident of the Iowa Quad Cities, passed away peacefully at his home in Mercer, Wisconsin on November 5, 2023.
Blaine was born in Nebraska, and later moved with his family to West Branch, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. He enlisted in the Marines in 1967. A proud Marine, he saw combat in Viet Nam where he served two tours and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Navy Commendation Medal with “V”. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1970.
He married Nancy Semotan in June of 1969. He later married Brenda (Moeller) Youngs in 1975 and later Helen (Boyd) Flack in 2013.
He was an avid hunter and an accomplished snow skier and ski instructor with certification with the Professional Ski Instructors of America. He was an instructor for many years at Sundown in Dubuque and Ski School Director at Ski Snowstar in the early 2000’s. He cherished the memory of his time teaching the sport in St. Anton, Austria.
He was a familiar face among Quad City area contractors having served as an Inspector and later Chief of Inspections at the City of Davenport, Iowa, retiring in 2014 after thirty-seven years of service.
He was a long-time member of the Durant chapter of the American Legion and a former Mason. He was a proud Irishman, an active participant in the St. Pat’s Parade in Davenport for many years and loved his Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Helen Suzanne, his daughter Shannon (Brett) Butler, West Branch, grandchildren, Tyler Hervey, Brittney (Michael) Ajalat, Samuel Hervey, and Shaina (David) Torres, great grandchildren Noah and Liam Ajalat; a stepson Joshua Hutchison (Heather Sanderson), Iowa City; four sisters, Christine (Larry) Williams, Clovis, CA; Deb (Tom) Pederson, West Branch IA; Joan (Art) Whittley, Powell Butte, OR, and Diane (Mike) Ketelsen, Durant, IA; four brothers, Mike (Theresa), Durant, IA; Pat (Theresa), Savage, MN; John (Jackie), Moline, IL; and Stephen (Sheri), Blue Grass, IA; and 20 nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Blaine Sr. and Patricia, and a brother Kevin.
Private graveside services will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery with full military honors on November 10, 2023. Memorials can be made to the Special Olympics of Illinois, an organization Blaine supported for many years with events at Ski Snowstar, or your local 4H Chapter.
