Beverley Jean Voss

December 27, 1940 — May 30, 2025

Beverley Jean (Taft) Voss, born December 27, 1940 to Harley Delore Taft and Hazel Agnes Copus, passed away peacefully at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House from lymphoma on May 30, 2025. She was 84.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Shirley Anne Lopshire, and husband Tom. She is survived by her sons Ben (Trish) and Todd (Fern).

Beverley was born at home on the farm near Barnum, WI. In 1947 her family moved to Madison, WI., where she enjoyed swimming in the nearby lake, Saturdays at the local movie theater, and time at her mother's neighborhood restaurant. In 1953 her family moved to Davenport, IA where she attended Frank L. Smart Jr. High and Davenport (Central) High School. She met her husband and the love of her life, Tom Voss, in 1955 on a blind date.

In 1958 she attended Marycrest College and then, at 18, with a two year teacher's certificate, taught at H.M. Perry grade school for two years. Beverley and Tom married on June 17, 1960, at the Wayside Chapel, St. John's Methodist Church in Davenport. In 1961, their first son, Ben, was born, and they moved to Harbor Road along the Mississippi River. Their second son, Todd, was born in 1966.

They remodeled a schoolhouse there into a home, where they lived until 1970. They moved "up on the hill" to escape the devastating floods. Their new home was an old farmhouse that they completely remodeled and added on to over the 55 years that they lived there. Bev enjoyed furnishing and decorating it with antique treasures found at yard sales, thrift stores, and antique shops.

From the late 1960s to the late 1970s, Bev volunteered in Davenport and Bettendorf community theater, doing makeup, wardrobe, sets, and eventually being executive producer and on the board of directors. She was a Reiki master and taught Reiki classes for about 10 years, starting in 1992. Bev was an avid reader and movie watcher her whole life, and sold books and movies online.

Beverley was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be remembered with love and missed by all.
