Born in Rock Island to Albert and Cecilia Habr, Betsy lived a proud and wonderful life defined by honesty and simplicity. She graduated with a BS Degree in Accounting from St. Ambrose University in 1981 and dedicated 40 years to her career in retail and as a Certified Tax Professional at H&R Block. In a profession built on numbers, Betsy was known for her human impact. She was a diligent advocate for her clients and a quiet provider for anyone facing difficult times, always willing to give whatever she could to help those in need. Betsy never asked for assistance and always found a way. She never gloated or needed fancy things in her life. All she needed was her family.

On March 21, 1987, Betsy married the love of her life, Gary Sheahan, at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Davenport. Together, they built a life rooted in devotion, partnership, and unwavering support for one another. Betsy was a devoted wife who stood beside Gary through every season of life, and their marriage was a constant example of loyalty, strength, fun, and love.

Betsy was the pillar of her family, a perfectionist with incredible attention to detail, and a steady rock who always pushed forward. Known affectionately as the “Mother of 12 Dragons,” she was immensely proud of her grandchildren and celebrated each of their successes, big or small. She loved to spoil them whenever she could. Her laughter was contagious, and her children often competed to make her laugh the hardest, because when they succeeded, they knew she felt true joy. Betsy was truthfully blunt, but her advice was always rooted in deep and unwavering love. When she wasn’t doing what she did best at work, she could be found at her grandchildren’s activities and events, from taekwondo and concerts to volleyball and softball games.

Betsy grew up playing softball, and enjoyed bowling with Gary. She loved watching her children and grandchildren excel in the things they loved. She always looked up to her mother, Cecilia Habr, and honored her memory in many ways, especially during the holidays. Each Christmas season, Betsy transformed her home into a magical wonderland, making sure the spirit of the season was felt by every member of her family.

Betsy deeply loved and cherished her mother and continued to live her life guided by the values her mother instilled in her. Through love, respect, kindness, and the life lessons she was taught, Betsy learned how to treat others with compassion and remain strong through any circumstance. Her mother also taught her the importance of hard work, a lesson Betsy carried with her and practiced faithfully throughout her entire life. Betsy and Gary devoted their time and energy to those around them. They would drop everything to watch the grandchildren, help with home renovations, or offer advice and support whenever it was needed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband of 52 years together, including 39 years of marriage, Gary; her children, Eric (Sarah) Sheahan, Shawn (Tiffany) Sheahan, Shane (Katelynn) Sheahan, and Sarah Sheahan (Noah Mitchell); many nieces and nephews, including her close nephew, Jason (Tiffany) White; her beloved grandchildren, Sophia, Dexter, Axel, Brooklynn, Madisynn, Lincoln, Karson, Paxton, Bailee, Rhett, Harper, and Rival, whom she absolutely adored; and her siblings, Danny, Nancy, Sue Sanchez, and Gary Habr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two siblings, and her great-nephew, Peyton White.

Betsy’s memory lives on in the strength of her family, the countless people she helped, and the honesty, love, and determination she instilled in everyone fortunate enough to know her.
