Obituary

Bernadine “Bernie” Leach, 81, of Davenport, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the Kahl Home in Davenport.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 24, 2026, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Long Grove, Iowa. Visitation will take place at the church prior to the service from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow the Mass at St. Ann’s Church Cemetery.

Bernie was born on August 28, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Felix and Thelma (Nelson) Olietti. She was united in marriage to Glenn Leach on August 6, 1966, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dolton, Illinois. Together, they shared 60 beautiful years of marriage and built a life rooted in faith, community, and service. Early in their marriage, they founded the first nursery at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Arlington, Virginia.

Throughout her life, Bernie worked in various roles where she could connect with and serve others. She was a bank teller, a credit union branch manager, a crossing guard, and a school para-educator. She deeply delighted in the children she served, and nothing brought her greater joy than when her former students visited her years later, bringing along their own spouses and children.

Bernie was intuitive, always the first person to notice when someone was in distress, and she never hesitated to reach out with comfort and support. Faith and friendship were central to her life; she was an active member of the Christian Experience Weekend at St. Ann’s Catholic Church and cherished traveling with her close friends from the parish. Above all, she loved her family and friends immensely.

She is survived and deeply missed by her beloved husband, Glenn; her sons, Jeff (Misty) Leach and Brian Leach; her grandchildren, Keith, Crystal, Madison, and Makala (Royal); her great-granddaughter, Lilah; and her siblings, William “Bill” (Carol) Olietti, Joe (Nancy) Olietti, and Phyllis VanCura.

Bernie was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Thelma; her sisters, June Maynard and Pauline Odeman; and her daughter-in-law, Renee Leach.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bernie’s honor may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Habitat for Humanity, or Doctors Without Borders.
