Benjamin John Mathias Gartner

Bettendorf, formerly of Rock Island

 

Benjamin John – Mathias Gartner, 36, of Bettendorf, and formerly of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport.  Per his wish the rite of cremation was accorded, and inurnment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Memorials may be made to the family or your local animal shelter.

 

Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, assisted the family.

 

Ben was born February 22, 1986, in Rock Island, the son of Ronald and Yolanda (Serrano) Gartner.  He graduated from Rock Island High School, class of 2004.

 

Ben was an old soul and had a way of putting people at ease throughout his illness.  He touched a lot of hearts, and the family would like to give a special thank you to all the LVAD staff at the University of Iowa, especially Emily and Carol.  

 

He loved watching hockey and was a huge fan of the Chicago Blackhawks and collected many of their jerseys.  He also enjoyed following the Cubs.  Ben loved the time spent hanging out with his family and friends.

 

Those left to carry on his memory include his mother Yolanda Gartner-Miller, Bettendorf; brothers Gabriel Serrano, Rock Island, Jose Ramos, Davenport; and sister Katie Serrano, Davenport; many aunts and uncles including Joe (Laurie) Hernandez, Scott (Cheryl) Serrano, Amanda Serrano, Chip Serrano & Renee Gartner Hull; and many cousins.

 

 

He was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents Martin and Kay Gartner, and John “Buck” and Beverly Serrano, Jr.
