Beatriz M. “Bea” Castaneda, 101, of Edinburg, Texas, died peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 N. Main Street, Davenport. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass Thursday at church. Burial will take place at a later date in Ebony Grove Cemetery, Mercedes, Texas. Memorials may be made to, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Davenport, Iowa. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Beatriz Montalvo was born on February 15, 1924 in Mercedes, Texas, a daughter of Jose and Petra a (Garcia) Montalvo. She graduated from Mercedes High School, Mercedes, Texas. Bea was united in marriage to Leopoldo V. Castaneda on February 16, 1947 He preceded her in death in September of 1985 following 44 years of marriage.

Bea worked for over 20 years with the United States Postal Service, first as a rural rout carrier then later in her career inside the post office. She had a tremendous work ethic!

Bea treasured her family, and cherished the time spent with them. She enjoyed working in her yard visiting with her neighbors and friends and sewing. Bea was also devoted to her Catholic faith and would attend daily Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle, San Juan, Texas.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Mario (Ida) Castaneda, Maria T. Martinez, and Deborah (Thomas III) Gillum; daughters-in-law, Martha Castaneda, and Gloria Castaneda; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Villareal; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Ricardo L. and Jaime E. Castaneda. May they rest in eternal peace.

The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Aguilar MD Bettendorf, for his kind attentive and comprehensive care. Mercy One Genesis Hospice Care and all the staff at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their loving, caring and gentle care for mom and family. Pastor Rudolph T. Juarez (St. Anthony Catholic Church Davenport Iowa for all his prayers.
