Barbara Beckman Tinsman, a lifelong resident of the Quad Cities and devoted member of her Catholic community, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf, on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 10:00 am. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until Mass begins at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Assumption High School, Project Renewal, the Quad City Symphony, or a charity of your choice.
Barbara was born on April 8, 1934, in Davenport, Iowa, to Wenselus Anthony Beckman and Margaret Mary Schulte Beckman. She spent her entire life in Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.
Barbara attended Marycrest College and the University of Iowa. On January 31, 1959, she married W. Scott Tinsman. Their marriage was a loving partnership that lasted more than sixty years until Scott’s passing on November 25, 2021.
A woman of deep faith, Barbara was actively involved in her Catholic parish throughout her life. She generously gave her time and energy volunteering with organizations that supported underprivileged children in the Davenport community. Barbara also served on the school board of Assumption High School, reflecting her strong belief in the value and importance of Catholic education. She was involved with giving other women comfort, support, and guidance who had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone a mastectomy. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor who felt it was important that she help other women who were in the same situation.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Thomas and James Beckman; and her beloved granddaughter, Angelica.
She is survived by her three children: W. Scott Tinsman Jr. (Beth) of Bettendorf, Iowa; Peter W. Tinsman (Heather) of Bonita Springs, Florida; and Elizabeth Tinsman Lee (Chip) of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She is also lovingly remembered by her ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Barbara will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her dedication to her family, and her lifelong commitment to serving others in her community.
Our family would also like to extend sincere gratitude to Fountains Senior Living staff for caring for our mother and treating her with respect for the six years that she lived there. We also would like to acknowledge the care and comfort she received from St. Croix Hospice and their large team of outstanding caregivers. Finally, we would like to thank Ivana and Shay for their years of service of being with our mother daily as a companion, caregiver and most of all, a friend that made the final years for mom pleasant and dignified.
