A Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara L. Smith, 91, of Davenport, formerly of Bettendorf, will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 30, 2019 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th Street, Bettendorf.  Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  The family will greet friends Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.  Memorials may be made to Handicapped Development Center. Barbara passed away Friday, May 24, 2019 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Barbara Lou Wilsey was born June 24, 1927 in Keokuk, Iowa, a daughter of Ray J. and Martha W. (Brady) Wilsey.  She married Robert V. Smith on November 1, 1951 in Davenport.  Barbara was a registered nurse, working for several area hospitals and as a school nurse for the Davenport Community School District.

She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Mercy Alumnae, AARP, and the Parent’s Group at the Handicapped Development Center.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially to Ireland.

Those left to honor Barbara’s memory include her husband of 67 years, Robert; children, Cynthia Kothenbeutel, Davenport, Michael (Kathy) Smith, Bettendorf, and Craig Smith, Davenport; grandchildren, Joey (Kat) Kothenbeutel, Seattle, Washington, Kristin Jones, Chesterfield, Michigan, and Jared Smith, LeClaire; great-grandchildren: Leyla and Amaya Jones, and a brother-in-law, Gordon Smith, Bettendorf.

Barbara was preceded in death by her son-in-law John Kothenbeutel, and her parents. May they rest in peace.
